New technologies, R&D
The Małopolska Region and its capital city of Kraków are among the leading regions and cities in terms of the number and quality of research & development institutions. This is thanks to the strong position of Kraków as an academic centre and the high level of scientific research in such schools of higher education as the Jagiellonian University www.uj.edu.pl, the Cracow University of Technology www.pk.edu.pl, or the AGH University of Science and Technology www.agh.edu.pl. Research is also conducted by the University of Agriculture in Kraków www.ar.edu.pl and a number of scientific institutes: Institute of Pharmacology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS), Henryk Niewodniczański Institute of Nuclear Sciences (PAS), Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry (PAS), Oil and Gas Institute, National Research Institute of Animal Production, Foundry Research Institute, and Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology.
